The third MonkeyShakespeare's Polonius famously states "Give every man thine ear, and few thy tongue." Long before him, it was written in James 1:19 "Be quick to listen, slow to speak."

Titled The Call, the musical's story leaps between two troubled communities: Third Monkey Inc, a phone counselling centre (which embraces the above philosophies to the extreme), and their clients, who daily unload their fears to the anonymous, completely silent operators.

The Operators have been waiting for a Call, which (rumour has it) will come on an antiquated green phone in the centre, to advise of a massive expansion in the business. But some in the company have different views on the best way to operate, and there are fears these divisions will delay the Call. The tensions are passed on to their callers, whom feel less and less unburdened when they pass on their anxious secrets.

All seems lost for the operators when removalists arrive at Third Monkey, with orders to start dismantling the centre. But the cut-off callers may not be quite as helpless - nor as disconnected - as everyone believed.

This original production features a cast of 19, and is presented in-the-round. The Call is the first musical to be created using the CRAB Method, an open text form which negates role hierarchy and creates truly democratic ensemble theatre.
